How Long to Cook Chapli Kabab to Perfection.

Chapli kabab

Chapli Kabab, a popular dish from the Pashtun region of South Asia, is a mouthwatering delight loved by food enthusiasts around the world. These flat, round, and spicy minced meat patties are not only incredibly flavorful but also quick and easy to prepare. However, achieving the perfect texture and flavor requires careful attention to the cooking time and technique. In this blog, we will explore how long to cook Chapli Kabab to ensure they turn out just right.

Ingredients (For 4 Servings):

  • 500g ground beef or chicken

  • 1 medium-sized onion, finely chopped

  • 2-3 green chilies, finely chopped

  • 2-3 cloves of garlic, minced

  • 1/2 cup fresh coriander leaves, finely chopped

  • 1/2 cup fresh mint leaves, finely chopped

  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds

  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)

  • Salt to taste

  • 1/4 cup gram flour (besan)

  • Cooking oil for shallow frying

Step-by-Step Guide:

  • Prepare the Meat Mixture:

  • In a large mixing bowl, add the ground meat (beef or chicken).

  • Add finely chopped onion, green chilies, garlic, coriander, mint leaves, and spices (cumin seeds, coriander powder, red chili powder, and salt).

  • Mix the ingredients thoroughly. You can use your hands to do this, as it helps to evenly distribute the flavors.

  • Add Gram Flour:

  • Gradually add the gram flour to the mixture. The gram flour helps bind the ingredients together and gives the kababs their distinct texture.

  • Shape the Kababs:

  • Take a handful of the mixture and shape it into a flat, round patty about 1/2 inch thick. You can use a little water to moisten your hands if the mixture sticks.

  • Heat the Oil:

  • In a large skillet or frying pan, heat cooking oil over medium-high heat. You'll want enough oil to shallow fry the kababs.

  • Fry the Kababs:

  • Carefully place the shaped Chapli Kababs into the hot oil. Cook them for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they turn golden brown and are cooked through.

  • Cooking time may vary depending on the thickness of the kababs, so keep an eye on them. Ensure that the meat is thoroughly cooked to avoid any health risks.

  • Drain Excess Oil:

  • Once the kababs are cooked, place them on a plate lined with paper towels to remove excess oil.

Serve Hot:

Chapli Kababs are best enjoyed hot and fresh. Serve them with naan, pita bread, or your favorite dip and side salad.
